Here are some more shots from the fort. It was built for the French Revolution and the view was spectacular!
After the fort we headed into Grenoble and it far exceeded our expectations. It was exactly how European cities are in the movies. There were lots of tiny streets lined with shops and cafes. We had the worlds best icecream cone from one of these places.
Heather and Andrew successfully completed their Mount Vonteux craziness and were feeling a little fatigued so today was planned to explore some caves that were relatively close by. They were absolutly spectacular. The stalagtites that were there were growing at a rate of 5cm per century. We also saw a dinosaur called an Olms. They are prehistoric cave dwelling...things that still exist today...very cool. The road leading up to the caves is not for the faint hearted. Mom, you never would have made it. It was narrow and curvy with overhanging rock everywhere. Very beautiful though. Here are some more pictures.
Those were our adventures for yesterday and today. We head off tomorrow to see the Tour de France time trial back in Annecy (where we jumped off the cliff). It's an early morning so I had better get to sleep.
I have totally ridden in the plexiglass bubble things!! I also have a very very similar photograph FROM the bubble... now let me see if I can remember this.... The yellow building on the corner in your picture.... the very first shop on the left corner of it (so right by the street) is a snowboarding shop where I rented all my equipment in order to learn to snowboard in the Alps! I have also been to that fort, and hiked back down from it.... I'm very glad we didn't hike up... my goodness.
ReplyDeleteDidn't I tell you Grenoble was great? Did you shop at all?
